Tree Pruning Vs Tree Lopping

Trees are important to the health and beauty of your garden, they not only add aesthetic appeal but also serve as natural shelter and shade. However, as trees grow larger, they can pose risks to people and property, especially when their branches start to overhang a home or road. Tree pruning or lopping is a necessary service to keep trees healthy and safe.

Tree Lopping involves removing branches, whether large or small, from a tree in order to reduce the size of the canopy or crown. It is often done for aesthetic reasons, or to encourage a particular shape of the tree. Tree loppers can use hand pruners or chainsaws to complete this task. However, it is important to remember that tree lopping can be very dangerous and should only be performed by experienced and qualified arborists.

Inexperienced tree loppers may cause serious damage by cutting too many branches, which can harm the health of the tree and also leave open wounds for pests to invade and decay the tree. This can lead to the death of the tree, resulting in potential safety hazards that affect people and their properties.

When a tree is lopped, the remaining limbs are more exposed to sunlight and wind, making them vulnerable to breakage. This can also result in a tree having to work harder to create new leaves and bark, which causes stress. Stress is known to be a major cause of disease and death in trees.

Another major problem with tree lopping is that it exposes the inner parts of the tree to direct sunlight and wind, which can make them susceptible to rot and insect infestations. This can be exacerbated by the open wounds left by the lopping process, which reduces a tree’s ability to chemically defend the wounds against pathogens.

When a tree is lopped, it can become overgrown and unruly and may require further trimming and pruning to keep it in check. This can be costly, especially if a tree has been lopped incorrectly or is too large for the surrounding environment. In contrast, Tree Pruning is a more precise method of trimming that only removes dead or damaged branches while promoting healthy growth and maintaining a stable structure. It can also be used to reduce the risk of damage from overhanging branches or to help improve visibility around the property. The tools used for Tree Pruning are usually smaller and less invasive than those used in Tree Lopping.
